A good friend

My new definition of "a good friend": someone who walks the extra mile with me.

And yes, pun intended.

Walked all the way home from Ang Mo Kio to Yishun, just for the fun of it.

Completed the long march after almost 2 hours, but it was fun. Had a great time chatting and being lame as we strolled along the paths, even though at certain points it was pretty eerie, since it was already past midnight.

Still, I guess it was fun, but definitely not something I want to do everyday, haha.

Off to massage my aching feet!

CIP for teachers

I think many students have this misconception that only students need to do CIP (Community Involvment Programme) whereas teachers usually just supervise them and that's it. But actually that's not true, for teachers are required to do CIP as well, and it's compulsory to clock up six hours per year.

Having actually done CIP once back in the ex school, I was once again assigned to do CIP sometime last week by the new school. This time round, we were sent to Pasir Ris Beach to pick litter. -_-"

Imagine a bunch of not-so-young-people, well dressed, walking around in a group in Pasir Ris Beach on a lazy Tuesday afternoon picking up litter. I think had we donned the orange vest, people might just jolly well think we are doing our CWO (Corrective Work Order). Anyway, it was a scorching hot afternoon, but whilst doing our CIP of picking up litter (actually there wasn't that MUCH litter either), I took the chance to snap around and admire the lesser seen view of Singapore.

Some of the pictures I took. =)

As I was happily snapping the pictures, I realised that it's really been a while since I visited Pasir Ris beach. What a vast difference from the time when I was in my secondary school/ JC days, where I would sometimes pop by with friends to just hang out or laze around, chat about things under the world. Sigh, indeed it seems that life during schooling days seem so much more carefree and relaxed.

BUT, nonetheless, I am glad I was "forced" to embark upon this journey of life, for had I not passed through the phase of schooling life and moved on to working life, I would probably never have fully understood and appreciate what I had back then.

Indeed, things happen for a reason. =)

情人Happy Birthday

Today's someone special's birthday...

Although I would have wished he was MY 情人, but sad to say, he's not. Anyway, why this title then? Simply because he has a song entitled 情人 Happy Birthday. =)

Nonetheless, I can't help but marvel at how good he looks at 46 years old.

16 years of worship, and still going strong. Always the epitome of a perfect man to me.

ETA: To celebrate this joyous occasion, I just happily busted $200 on 4 tops and 4 necklaces at a online store. Great job! Shall feed on grass for a long long while.

Cannot say de secret

Maybe people might find it weird why I chose such a funny blog address. But the point was to show that in reality, too often we do make such a mistake. Of using both English and Chinese in the same sentence.

Just like we always say...

"我要去Macdonalds."

But anyway, I always feel that it's alright to mix a little of both languages, so long one still remembers how to speak proper when required.

Anyway, I became a part time beach cleaner today, thanks to CIP.

Shall elaborate more on it tomorrow.

THE.LAST.POST

Happily sipping a cup of cold Yuzu tea right now, as I type this final entry.

Yes, this is the final entry, at least till I decide upon a new bloglink for myself and decide to make it known to others.

Blogging in private sometimes has its own kicks too, and the thrills of saying whatever you desire, without having to fret about it being read by people you do know or people whom you do not want the information to be made known to.

Freedom comes with responsibility as I have always advocated for, and a particular fresh incident makes me relish this quote even more so. True that we all have our own freedom of speech, freedom of thoughts and our democratic rights. But, the freedom we have in our hands is bundled together with responsibility. Can you handle the responsiblity that you have? Can you bear the responsibilities of the consequences for your words and actions? Many a times, we act without the consent of our brains, we forget the impact of our actions/ decisions, we become irresponsible people who are unable to take responsiblity for the repercussions of our decisions. To err is not an unforgivable mistake, but not admitting one's errors is unforgivable. 人非圣贤,孰能无过, it is inevitable for us to make mistakes, to stumble and to be foolish. But, we must have the courage to pick up from where we faltered, to start from scratch if we have to and to cross the hurdles of life.

People make mistakes all the time, so do I. It's only the ability to admit one's mistakes and repent which differentiates the good ones from the bad ones.

Anyway, enough of digressing.

Shall end off my entry for now, and the future.

So long...

A cheery view

Had to attend a course yesterday morning at NTUC building. It wasn't exactly the type of course that would appeal to me, but the first sight that greeted me as I entered the room compensated for the lack of appeal.

It's such a pretty sight, I can picture the mood of staff working there. Their day simply brighten up upon such a cheery sight!

I wished I had such a splendid view from my office. A pity, I stare right only into a zoo.

The atypical Xiao Ming

Ever since my schooling days, my Chinese teachers have always make us use this particular name, 小明 when writing compositions. In fact until now, I think this name pops up relatively often in Chinese compositions, sentence structuring and many more...

Somehow over the years, I guess my impression of Xiao Ming has been moulded into one of something like this...

Maybe that's due to the stereotyping of the 小明 character in composition I guess, or maybe because it's a name too common for one to remember and dwell on...

BUT!

I not-so-recently got to know one particular 小明(晓明) that actually looks so good!

OMG, I never knew that 晓明 could look so good! Haha! Not only that, 黄晓明 has a pretty good voice. Been looping the theme song he sang for 《新上海滩》on my iTunes, the song's rather good!

A.SIGH.OF.RELIEF

I can finally heave a HUGE sigh of relief at not having to repeat the following process again.

1.Come up with questions
2.Adjust alignments
3.Edit questions
4.Edit alignments
5.Repeat above mentioned steps

Yayness for finally, FINALLY clearing all the papers.

This past two weeks have been one hell of a hectic week for me. Meetings here and there, papers due then and there... Am just so glad I have gone through the bulk of these without losing my sanity. The next huge obstacle will be the marking of the scripts. I can foresee myself slogging over horribly written compositions and cannot-be-deciphered handwrittings. Nonetheless, I have always believed in this Chinese saying... 今朝有酒今朝醉. Thus I shall just enjoy the little more free time I have for now and worry about these trivial matters at a later date.

Anyway, I got a new sleeping partner recently. It's really very theraupatic, and I seem to doze off into dreamland at an astonishing speed. Meet my latest sleeping partner!

And whoever says adults cannot have softtoys, it's bullshit. There's always a child in each and everyone of us no matter how old we are. =)

日本語を勉強します

わたしはジョエンです。
日本語は好きです、でも私の日本語は下手ですね!
そう、日本語の勉強は頑張らなければなりません!

Enquired about Japanese courses today while I was out. Am thinking of picking up Japanese again and hopefully advance in my command of the language. Oral quiz this Sunday to determine how many grades I can skip for the course.

Good luck to me!!! I feel so rusty in the grasp of the language now.

Like the flowing river...

Time waits for no man.

In a twinkling of an eye, the one week holidays are almost gone.

Procrastinating is really one bad habit I need to rid myself of someday, soon.

Anyway, off to get a new phone tomorrow. The current one's really dying, so might as well get a replacement before it dies completely. Am considering among a couple of models, mainly from SE, since their phones are reputated to be strong and sturdy.

A short entry for today.

Back to blog more tomorrow. =)

The proper holidays

Since the holidays begun, I have NOT stepped foot back into office once. This is something I am NOT complaining about though. =)

For once, I feel like I am having a proper holiday, a proper break to recharge and rejuvenate myself. Holidays begun officially on Sunday, with me heading down town to Orchard for some shopping with YL.

After that, it was reclusion for me on Monday and Tuesday. Basically nua-ed at home these two days, playing silly online games, chatting with friends online, watching television. Came Wednesday, finally stepped out of the house, though I was down with a little cold and sore throat, which I suspect was due to the late nights I was clocking previously. Sometimes silly games can be pretty addictive! Anyway, headed down to town before meeting some ex-colleagues plus students for dinner at Chomp Chomp, Serangoon Gardens. That place brought back quite some memories, happy ones, sad ones... Nonetheless, thankfully the walk down memory lane didn't cause me sleepless night. Anyway, after the sinful dinner at Chomp Chomp, we went for desert at this small little ice cream shop further down Kensington Road. Had a lovely time chatting, cracking jokes and simply talking rubbish, and the ice cream there was pretty unique. I liked the Magic Potion lots, it was yummy! But apparently someone isn't a very good drinker, haha. You know who you are!

Fast forward to today, met up with my godson/brother for breakfast/lunch at Cafe Cartel, then took the train down to town again for KTV with F. Was fun singing songs despite the aching throat, haha. Then it was back to Yishun for my medical appointment.

Anyway, these two lovely items are coming in the mail soon. Yay!

Note to self: must get down to completing some work tomorrow. Sigh, I am enjoying my holidays so much, I wish school wasn't reopening so soon.

Nonetheless, a belated Happy holidays to all. =)
