Japanese MoviesWatched two Japanese movies over the weekend. First was《春の夏》(Haru no Natsu) and then《涙そうそう》(Nada Sou Sou).
Coincidentally, both movies were by Tsumabuki Satoshi (妻夫木聡). He seems pretty versatile for an actor, considering that the role portrayal in both movies were so vastly different. In Haru no Natsu, he was this cold, aloof and pretty childish Hiroki who lost what he wanted because of silly mind games. In Nada Sou Sou, he was Yotaro, the responsible and optimistic brother who loved and wanted the best for his step sister, Kaoru.
Between both shows, I preferred Nada Sou Sou a lot more. Though the story plot was very simple, and somewhat cliche, yet it moved me far greater than Haru no Natsu. The genuine love Yotaro had for Kaoru, wanting the best for her, thinking of her far more than of himself, and the very fact that this step sister was someone who had no blood ties with him... Overall, I enjoyed this movie far more than the other. The only thing I learned from watching Haru no Natsu was some Japanese culture, and that there's no second chances in life. Don't wait till everything's too late and there's no more room for regret before you do anything. Don't miss the chance of attaining happiness simply because you were too proud to admit something. Don't live to regret only after losing something most important.
Anyway, sharing with everyone the trailer for Nada Sou Sou. My favourite scene has got to be the one when Kaoru bades farewell to Yotaro, and he breaks down in his own garden.
I like Japanese movies. They are simple, yet philosophical. To me, they always seem to be portraying things in lives that we want to be, yet no longer get to be.
